Cooperative Care in action

01 November 8:30am – 5pm
Kandanga, Queensland

Learn about getting started with cooperative husbandry techniques.

Is your horse hard to halter, wild at de-worming time, fidgety for the farrier or impossible to inject? This is the clinic for you! Spend a day in beautiful Kandanga with your horse learning to harness the power of cooperative husbandry so your horse becomes a willing participant, even for those unpleasant but necessary husbandry and veterinary procedures. Cooperative care techniques can be used to remove the stress from vet visits, making it safer for you, the horse and our precious veterinarians.

Cooperative care is widely used in the zoo industry to teach all manner of things to a variety of wild animals, all completely unrestrained and often with the handlers on the opposite side of the fence from the animal. From injections to eye drops, x-rays and hoof trims.

Not only does this training remove fear and stress from the equation but it turns it into a fun game for both the horses and trainer providing an opportunity to deepen your connection and communication with your horses. Whether your horse has a phobia of the vet or you simply want them to hold up their foot without leaning on you, this is the clinic for you!

During the morning you will learn the core skills needed to get started and introduce them to your horse. In the afternoon participants will focus on a particular skill they would like their horse to learn using a training plan tailored for them.
